The Bible Column - The Day of our Death and The Day of our Judgement

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement:” Hebrews 9:27
Throughout each year, we remember certain days that have to do with things concerning us personally, such as birthdays or anniversaries. Days regarding others and our nation as a whole are remembered as well! It is always good to stop and remember these days and the events which they represent.
The thought of the above Scripture directs us to other days, these yet future. There are two days in view here, because the one day brings about the second. None of us knows when these days will come, but according to the Bible and our human experience, we know they will come! These days, of course, are the day of our death and the day of our judgement before the Lord.
Some might not be very interested in being reminded of these two days, but may I say that these days are no doubt more important than the other days which we hold so dear. In Ecclesiastes 7:1 we read, “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.” For the born-again believer, the day of physical death is truly a better day! It is graduation day. It is translation day – the day we go to be with our Saviour for all eternity. It is also the day we see those departed Christian friends and beloved family, who knew the Lord and have gone before us! “Oh, glad reunion there in the skies!” The promise of Scripture directs, “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord!” II Corinthians 5:8
As it should be to each one, the day of our judgement before God is of a most sobering nature! In preparation for that day, what we do with the Lord Jesus Christ in this life is most important. The direction of Scripture is that as we place our resting faith and belief in Christ alone, by faith alone, and then be careful to maintain good works, we will be prepared for the day of the judgment of God, to follow this life! (Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:8)
For the faithful, blood bought born again believer, “The future is just as bright as the promises of God”. For the lost, only God’s wrath awaits.
Will you repent of your sin?...and place your faith in the finished work of Christ, today? You would be glad that you did in eternity!
