The Bible Column - Are You an "Abrahamic Type Father?"
“Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” Genesis 18:18-19
As we approach Father’s Day 2020, please consider several things regarding the father of these verses. His name is Abraham. First, we learn that in God’s plan Abraham has fathered a great and mighty nation in God’s chosen people, the nation of Israel. We also learn that “all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.” This unalterable axiom needs to be recognized by every Father, every nation, every leader, and every citizen of every nation under the sun. Argument against this mandate of God will always render ultimate defeat. Our constant prayer needs to be that God would move upon our nation’s Fathers and leaders to make sure that we accept the place of the nation of Israel for our national blessing. While, many in our nation and world may not understand this rule of Almighty God according to the Old Testament Scriptures, obedience to its edicts are imperative for God’s blessing on our nation and our world!
The second verse above speaks of the reliability of Abraham. The Bible says, “For I know him..” Abraham could be counted on…he could be depended upon by Almighty God, his family, and his household. As a result, those whom Abraham loved would do right in matters of justice and judgment because of what Abraham did. Abraham’s obedience paid great dividends back to him. Every father that follows Abraham’s example will find also that God will bless their obedience.
To the Father’s of our nation… “Happy Father’s Day.” May the Lord draw all Fathers to Himself in obedience and repentance and the setting aside of all known sin! Our nation and families need fathers like Abraham of old! Dad, will you purpose to be an “Abrahamic type Father” today? I trust that you will be counted for truth and righteousness today!
