The Bible Column - Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” Psalms 33:12
Independence Day 2020 is Saturday. What a joy it is to live in America. There are many advantages and opportunities available to us, as American people. We need to rejoice in these things, I believe! Every Bible believing Christian ought to be concerned for our nation however, because of the many things that continue to take place that are contrary to the laws of Almighty God. Presently, with each passing day ungodliness raises its ugly head against freedom in America.
In the Scripture above, we learn the simple principle that the blessing of the Lord rests upon the nation that makes God their Lord and master. A simple observation reveals that for many people in our land, God is not their Lord. The word “Lord” is included in many compound names, especially in the Old Testament. By itself, the word “Lord” speaks of the self-existent or eternal aspect of the God-head. In a changing world, the Eternal God is the only sure foundation.
While, greed and dishonesty, immortality and murder, the perverting of judgment and justice, continue in contradiction to a never-changing and loving God, His blessing continues to be withdrawn from our nation. Believers need to pray, witness, stand, and reach out to a lost and dying world, with the truths about how to make God our Lord. All else will result in God’s judgment and not His blessing!
Our confidence must rest in the truth of Scripture, “…that the living may know the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the baseth of men.” Daniel 4:17 Also, “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 7:9
Change and decay,
In all around I see,
O, Thou Who changest not,
Abide with me!
