The Bible Column - Have You Been Reconciled to God?

“To wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19
The word reconcile is used in the passage above, to explain one aspect of the believer’s spiritual position before God. It explains that while once an enemy of God, the one who comes to Him through Christ is now a friend of God. The Bible teaches that every blood washed believer has been reconciled. At one time we were God’s enemies, but now we are His friends. Once we were a child of the Devil, but now we are a child of God.
The words above “To Wit” are used to say that, “In this manner” reconciliation takes place. The explanation follows. When the Lord Jesus walked on this earth he was God Almighty in the flesh. His ministry at that time was to reconcile the people of the world to Himself and thus to God. Also, He imputed or placed the sins of the people on Himself and not on the ones who had actually committed the trespasses.
Then, as Christ returned to the Father, having finished His earthly ministry, the ministry and “word of reconciliation,” has now been given to those of us, living on this earth, who have already been reconciled. The next verse explains, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God”. The ambassadorship of each believer brings the message of the opportunity of reconciliation to individuals outside of Christ. We say, “We pray you, in Christ stead, be ye reconciled to God”..would you come to God through Christ?
Dear reading friend, have you been made a friend of God? If not, you can be. Eternity’s day is coming. Flee from the wrath to come! Reconciliation can be yours today!
