The Bible Column - The Way of Eternal Life (Part 2)

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:14-15
“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:21
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:13
This week, please consider with me the story that is told by the verses above. First we learn that the Son of man is the central person. We learn that He is also the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord, and the Son of God. Second, we learn that eternal life is the object of salvation. The word eternal means forever. It means everlasting. Eternal life begins at the moment a person is truly saved, gives them a new beginning and a new life while living here on the earth and then continues forever into eternity. Eternal life is the opposite of eternal damnation. Eternal life is a life lived with a personal relationship with the true Godhead, and eternal damnation is a life lived with a personal relationship with the god of this word, the devil. Eternal life provides for the right kind of life presently and the assurance of a Heavenly home. Eternal damnation magnifies sin, the flesh, and the devil in this present life and meets with the judgment of God in Hell for all eternity.
The way to gain eternal life is also given here. Three words give the conditions that must be met in order for a person to go from light to darkness. The words are “repentance”, “faith”, and “call”. Then the word “know” describes the assurance that a person can have about eternal life.
More, next week, the Lord willing!
