The Bible Column - Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20
This verse of scripture is one of several in Isaiah 5 which pronounces a woe upon a disobedient people. A woe is a lamenting. It is a crying out in pain and sorrow. It is a statement of regret or pain. The woe in the verse above is against those that improperly reverse three sets of two things. These sets of two are good and evil, light and darkness, and sweet and bitter.
We know that these three sets of two things are completely the opposite from each other. To confuse or reverse them is a very obvious error. The result is an utmost violation of anything that is right and proper. So extreme is this error that a “woe” from Almighty God is pronounced upon those who would dare violate and reverse these matters of right and wrong.
Not only is the violation of these matters an offense to Almighty God, but also to others in the society around each of us. Whenever evil is called good and good is called evil, the standards are so inverted and subverted that all trust and confidence is gone. Relationships of all kinds continue to be destroyed because these basic principles are violated. Many times the very folk, who are most antagonistic against the inclusion of the Lord, the Bible, and the right way in their lives, are the very ones who are greatly affected by the cutting scares of sin. How much better it is and would be to allow the Father and His way to rule our lives. Our personal good and His glory are gained when we allow His way with us.
The ministry of Rossville Bible Church focuses solely upon setting forth the Bible way. While none of us in this life has attained to the eternal Bible standard, we believe that our need is to continue to look into the perfect law of liberty.
“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein,
he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be
blessed in his deed.” James 1:25
