The Bible Column - A Saviour is Born
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
It hardly seems possible that another year is nearly finished. As people say, “there are just a few days left until Christmas”. I trust that this time and season fines both you and those that you love in the place and positon of God’s own choosing. I trust you know the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour from your sin.
We do not know that the Lord Jesus was born on December 25th. Some folks, as a result, would not be in favor of remembering the birth of the Christ child on this date. I believe, however; that it is good and important for us to set aside a day to look back and remember when the Saviour of the world was born. According to the verse above, there was a certain day when God sent forth His Son. We know where Christ was born. We know what the circumstances were. But for some reason the Holy Spirit in authoring the Bible, did not see fit to reveal the exact date.
Recently I heard a man say that Christmas should be combined with another particular day of celebration and day of remembrance. This man said that he thought that there was not really that much religious significance left in these holidays anymore. No doubt for him and many others that is true. Some say “X-mas”. Others say “winter program” or “winter festival”. But for the believer in Christ there is deep meaning in the remembrance of our Saviour’s birth. The name “Christ” speaks of an anointing of God. The word “anoint” means to place or consecrate into a high office. God the Father placed His own Son into the high office of the Messiah for his own dear children the Jews, and as Saviour of the world for all who believe. The greatest gift available today is the free gift of God’s forgiveness of our sin through Christ the Anointed One! Temporal gifts come and go but salvation is the eternal gift.
If you are reading today and realize that you have never received Christ as your personal Saviour, receive Him today. If you need help in understanding more about Salvation, please call and I will set down with you with open Bible. Thanks for considering. Today is the day of Salvation.
