The Bible Column - Are You a Victor?

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God.” I John 5:4-5
Instead of being held captive to the sins and vices of the world system and arrangement, the believer has the privilege of living in victory. Since the Garden of Eden, two systems of dominion have existed. One is the world system in which Satan is directly in charge. The activity and action of this system is to engulf and enslave people in sin and wickedness and finally carry them to eternity in Hell and the Lake of Fire. The other kingdom is not of this world. (John 18:36) This kingdom is the kingdom of God. (John 3:3&5) It is referred to throughout Scripture and in the Gospels. The activity and action of this kingdom is to free people from sin in this life and finally transport them to a place of bliss and joy and rejoicing called Heaven.
Since the fall of mankind into sin in the Garden of Eden, all of us were born into the first kingdom as children of wrath and having Satan himself as our Father. (Ephesians 2:3 and John 8:44) Only through the new birth and what the Bible calls “being born again” can any of us see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3) After salvation and receiving the divine nature, the believer can overcome, subdue, conquer, and prevail over the diabolical world system. When a person places their faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross where He died and paid for our sins, they are translated into the kingdom of God’s son. (Colossians 1:13)
All of the benefits and peace of this heavenly kingdom are the possession of the believer. Victory to overcome the world of sin then is ours. The heavenly kingdom is the winning kingdom. You and I can be a part of this kingdom of rest and peace. What cause for genuine thanksgiving in our hearts for what the Lord has done!
