The Bible Column - My Advocate

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” I John 2:1
Here, we learn of believers in Christ who the Apostle John called the “little children” of the Lord. We read the admonition that we sin not. That is the direction from the Lord to us and the needed goal of every blood bought child of God. However, because we remain sinners even after we are saved, we still need the Advocate Jesus Christ the righteous between ourselves and God the Father. The word Advocate speaks of an intercessor. Through the Advocate, we can reach the Father not for further salvation but for our sanctification from day to day.
A lady by the name of Martha Snell Nicholson wrote about her sin, Satan’s attack on her soul because of her sin, and the wonderful work of the Advocate in her life. Please consider her words to this end…entitled, “My Advocate”. Her words include and refer to Bible words and truth from the Scriptures.
My Advocate
I sinned. And straightway, at once, Satan flew before the presence of the Most High God.
And made a railing accusation there. He said, “This soul, this thing of clay and sod,
Has sinned. ‘Tis true that he has named Your name, But I demand his death, for You have said,
The soul that sins shall surely die.’ Shall not Your sentence be fulfilled?
Is justice dead? Send now this wretched sinner to his doom. What other thing can righteous Ruler do?”
And thus he did accuse me day and night, And every word he spoke, O God, was true!

Then quickly One rose up from God’s right hand, Before whose glory angels veiled their eyes.
He spoke, “Each jot and tittle of the Law Must be fulfilled; the guilty sinner dies!
But wait – suppose his guilt were all transferred To Me, and that I paid his penalty!
Behold My hands, My side, My feet! One day I was made sin for him, and died that he
Might be presented, faultless, at Your throne!” And Satan flew away. Full well he knew
That he could not prevail against such love, For every word my dear Lord spoke was true!

Dear reading friend, do you know this Advocate, Jesus Christ the Righteous as your personal Saviour from sin? You can and need to know him today! Please let me help with questions that you have.
