The Bible Column - Not Ashamed of the Gospel
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
Here, the Apostle Paul spoke clearly of several things. First, he affirmed that he was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. In short, the gospel of Christ is the good news of Christ’s completed sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the whole world. While some of Paul’s day, were ashamed of the message of the gospel of grace, Paul was not ashamed.
In this same verse, we learn, secondly, of the reason Paul gave as to why he was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. Paul said… “for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” Only the unlimited power of God can save a lost sinner. Thirdly, the result of the power of God through the gospel is “unto salvation”. The word salvation speaks of being rescued form the cesspool of sin and eternal hell fire. Only the unlimited power of God can rescue a sinner from a life of sin and future eternal hell.
Finally, the means of receiving this eternal salvation is “believeth”. Notice the word is not, “taking communion”, “baptism”, “church membership”, “church tradition”, “good deeds”, or anything else other than a simple, repentant heart belief of the gospel of Christ. Acts 20:21, Ephesians 2:8-9
This only is the message of the Bible for forgiveness of sins. I believe the Bible and the gospel of Christ. I as the Apostle Paul, am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,…“for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 8:16, I John 5:13
