The Bible Column - Pray for our Nation

“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you: That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” I Thessalonians 4:11
“For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” II Thessalonians 3:10
“For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the Lord, and turned their backs.” II Chronicles 29:5
“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall have them in derision.” Psalm 2:4

As I write this week’s “The Bible Column”, I am deeply burdened for the future freedom and prosperity of our nation! For many years now most of our nation’s educational and religious enterprises have been infiltrated with humanistic and socialistic belief and teaching, so that presently the desired goal of forsaking the God of Heaven has largely been accomplished in masses of people! The sadness of this circumstance is that these people, both the teachers and the students, are really convinced that their strategies for life and prosperity will actually work both in the short and long terms!
This determined objective is pursued in light of the fairly recent and extended historical picture seen by many of our lifetimes, of the poverty and unrest in Communist block and terroristic nations! Many are the testimonials of those exiled and now free in the United States of America, of the destruction of Godlessness and Socialism. Those freed now plead with us for a changed direction in our land! They have been there and done that in their lives under bondage! Clearly, many native born Americans are pleading for Godliness, as well!
The Scriptures above tell a clear but brief story of how the God of Heaven, as recorded in His book the Bible, has directed mankind to live and work in harmony, and peace! These are some of the basic principles which have been the bedrock for the long past success of our nation! In the last verse above, and all of Psalm 2, a Messianic Psalm is written. That is a Psalm of the Messiah in His future 1000 year Kingly reign on this earth. It outlines a picture, even now evident, of the ungodly raging in anger against God with imagination of vain things! The Lord in Heaven laughs… (He sees mankind as unbelievably pathetic in their steady and strong effort to oppose Him) The word “derision”, speaks of the “deep trouble” that mankind is presently in!
The only answer for our nation’s deep trouble is to individually turn today, back to God for His forgiveness and direction! Our nation needs to be in church where the Bible is taught and preached. Our nation was far better when most went to church and when many churches preached the Bible as God’s holy word! Today in our nation, very few by comparison, are found in church on the Lord’s Day. What is your answer today? There is forgiveness with God. Psalms 130:4. The Lord is good and ready to forgive. Psalms 86:5
