The Bible Column - Prayer Changes Things

“Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Luke 10:2
S.C. Todd told of a discovery he made while looking through the records of a mission board to China. He was struck by the fact that in one of the stations the number and spiritual character of the converts had far exceeded the others. Equally dedicated and consecrated servants had been in charge of similar but less fruitful areas of service.
The rich harvest of souls remained a mystery until Hudson Taylor on a visit to England, was approached by a man who seemed to have accurate knowledge of this particular China mission station. As they talked, Mr. Taylor learned the secret of success on the Chinese field. “Oh,” he replied, “the missionary there and I are old college-mates and for years we have regularly corresponded; he has sent the names of inquirers and converts, and these I have taken daily to God in prayer.” The spiritual intercession of a truly dedicated man at home, praying definitely and daily for specific needs, had abounded to the glory of God!
Prayer does change things! As this man faithfully prayed, the windows of heaven opened wide. The prayer request in the Scripture above is for labourers to go into the harvest fields. Then we need to pray for those who are called to go. Dear reader, are you in contact with faithful Bible believing missionaries? Are you praying for the harvest? Soon it will be too late. We need to work now while it is yet day!
