The Bible Column - What is Your Life?

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” Ecclesiastes1:9
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” Ecclesiastes 12:13
Please consider these three Scripture verses above, in relation to our lives in the New Year. In the first scripture above, Solomon describes the circuit or circle of things in this life … that there is no new thing under the sun. Since the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden of old, the same and continuous cycles of human behavior, are ours to live. In the last verse above, he concludes the whole duty of man is simply to fear God and keep his commandments. This is the way the Father in Heaven desires his creation to live! Without the clearly stated commandments of God, as written in the Bible, we as sinners only come to difficulty and confusion. Then, in the middle verse above, James explains the brevity of our lives. Truly, we do not have very long to honor the Lord. We are not even at the helm of the length of our lives. So, we need to trust the Lord in our short time here on this earth.
Solomon, as the wisest man that ever lived, searched in every way to find happiness and fulfillment in things and pleasure alone. His conclusion is the story of the book of Ecclesiastes… that all of life, is by itself, vanity, emptiness, and vexation of spirit apart from God. Bible salvation, by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross provides the payment and remedy for our sin and wayward life before God and mankind.
Dear friend, are you ready for Heaven? Are you trusting Christ alone today for your salvation and forgiveness of sin? He is the way the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Him! John 14:6 “ Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Maybe the Lord will come back for his church in 2019!
