The Bible Column - Freedom

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32
This week I want to make a connection between the freedom as a result of the “new birth” in Christ Jesus and the freedom in our nation. There is a necessary pattern to freedom in any realm. As the verse above teaches, truth is that which brings freedom. Then throughout Scripture and in practical life, there is always a price for carrying truth, which produces freedom.
In the spiritual realm, our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ is truth and the very Son of God the Father. He lived a holy, perfect, and sinless life on this earth, and to purchase our freedom from sin and its guilt and penalty, He died and shed his precious blood on the cross a ransom for all.
I Timothy 2:6 The Lord Jesus gave His very lifeblood for truth and the provision of the “new birth”. There is also a price that the born again believer must pay to stand for truth, but freedom comes only by and through truth.
In our nation the same pattern applies. Our founding fathers were motivated and directed by many and certain matters of truth. They paid the price of the loss of personal fame, wealth, family, and even their own lives. The price that they paid for truth was great, but it bought and brought freedom to our land for these many years. Sadly, as truth is set-aside in our nation, our freedom is clearly being diminished as well. Our society and people are mostly unwilling to pay the needed price that truth demands.
On this July 4th may we be reminded and revived to the fact and duty of the pattern of “truth”, “freedom”, and “the price and sacrifice” required. Our Creator deserves our yieldness in this matter. Our military personnel deserve our allegiance too. We owe it to ourselves so that we can live a quiet and peaceable life in our land and in our homes. May the Lord help us today!
