The Bible Column 2018 01 27
“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be ye not partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” Ephesians 5:6-8
It is important for the born again Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, to understand of the great chasm that the Bible details between the child of God and the children of disobedience, as described in the passage above! The phrase, “children of disobedience”, speaks of those individuals outside of the saving grace of God, who because of their present unwillingness to repent of their sin before God, and obey and believe on the finished Calvary work of the Lord Jesus Christ for their sins! The Bible explains further that, “…men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:19
By contrast in the Scriptures above, we learn of those who the Bible calls, “children of light”. The simple understanding of the words “darkness” and “light”, explain in a complete way, the great chasm that exists between the “children of disobedience” and the “children of light”. It is no wonder that the unsaved do not understand what makes the born again believer function! Furthermore, the darkness is blinding while the light is radiant and provides clear divine direction from the creator of the universe! The practical difference in the darkness and the light that can come to any individual alive today (John 3:16), is the great change that the Bible describes as the new birth!
The avenue then, to become “children of light” is clearly not of the individual themselves, but rather in the life changing work that Almighty God is able to do in the heart of any “child of disobedience”. The only part of this life-changing miracle that any child of disobedience has is to repent of their sins before God, and place their faith and trust of their complete forgiveness in Christ’s finished redemptive work for their sins…past, present and future! Sadly few by comparison, are willing to say “yes” to the proposition of God for their cleansing.
The choice for each of us is our way or God’s…it is to continue in our sin or repent of it before God…it is to pay for our own sin by spending eternity in the Lake of Fire, or allowing God’s plan of our salvation through Christ to pay for our sin! The results for each of us are darkness or light.
The question for each of us, is what will we decide today? My prayer today for each one, is for their decision for obedience, light, and forgiveness in God’s provision through Christ! What will you do today?
