The Bible Column - The Abrahamic Covenant
Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee;
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
The Scripture above is called the Abrahamic Covenant. They tell of God’s covenant or agreement with Abram…that was his name at that time. In this everlasting covenant, God promised Abram that He would make of Abram’s seed a great nation. In less than 400 years from the time that God gave this promise to Abram, the name Israel was given to Abram’s grandson Jacob.
In the Hebrew language, the name Israel means a refreshment! It speaks of the life giving marrow of the bones! It tells of ruling as God! Strong words?...Yes! That is the place that God has given to the nation of Israel. And…clearly, the Bible name Israel still stands as a nation today, amid the many cruel attempts to snuff out their existence!
Then, the Bible tells us that the Lord would bless Israel, make their name great, they would be a blessing, the cursing of God would be upon any that decide to curse Israel, and that in Israel would all the families of the earth be blessed! How can that be you may ask? That blessing is found in and through Abram’s seed in the Lord Jesus Christ, which gave his life and shed His eternal blood, was buried, and rose again for the sins of the whole world. I John 2:2 That blessing to all the earth is that anyone and everyone can have their sins eternally forgiven by and through God’s sin bearer, the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you see it dear reading friend? The only means of the eternal forgiveness of our individual sins comes through the Abrahamic Covenant of many years ago! God is faithful to keep his promise even unto our day and for each of us! Even though the nation of Israel is in present blindness of who their Messiah is, God is still using their seed in Christ, to bring redemption to whosoever will come and drink of the water of life freely. Romans 11:25 and Revelation 22:17
I am rejoicing today in the soul saving ability of Abram’s seed in Christ Jesus! Also, I am rejoicing that America now once again stands with the nation of Israel, even to the extent of establishing the American embassy in the city of Jerusalem! God’s promise to curse those who curse Israel is not an idol threat! It is rather part of the Abrahamic Covent established about BC 2126 and is still standing as God’s ordained covenant for all to obey!
