The Bible Column - God's Peace to Gideon in Time of Trial (Part 2)

“And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” Judges 6:13
“…in the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
“Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;” Deuteronomy 7:9
This sequel Bible Column to last week’s article, in which, the God of Heaven in Judges 6:23, spoke peace directly to Gideon! We know that Gideon clearly understood God’s message of peace, when in Judges 6:24, he called his altar Jehovah-shalom Lord of Peace! God sent his peace to Gideon in time of trial. In the second or third verses of scripture above, we also learn of God’s promises of his faithfulness and mercy to each one who loves the Lord and keeps his commandments to a thousand generations!
Presently, in our nation and world, we are faced with the uncertain, unsettling situation of the Coronavirius! In every generation, great challenges of tribulation come to each of us in the pilgrim pathway of this world! In Christ and the triune God we have the eternal promise of victory today and in the future. What will happen in this present worldwide virus challenge is most certainly unclear. The peace of the believer as with Gideon of old rests in trusting the Lord. We read in Isaiah 26:3, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed upon thee; because he trusteth in thee!
How about you today, dear reading friend? Do you know the joy of sins forgiven and assurance of eternal life through repentance of your sin before God and faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary? Jesus is not on the cross today! He is the risen Lord over sin, death, hell, and the grave! His victory can be yours today! His peace can be your peace today! His payment can be your eternal life today!
You do not need to settle for a life of quiet desperation regarding your future! There is present victory in Jesus for you today!
