The Bible Column - Abortion

“And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” Genesis 9:5-6
“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” John 12:48
The “Abortion Battle” rages hot in our land. “To kill “or” not to kill,” that is the question. That real question is disguised as “Pro Life “or” Pro Choice”. Further deception is camouflaged by the question… when in the early life of a child is it okay to kill them? Is it alright to take the life of the developing fetus before the heartbeat can be detected, after the heartbeat can be detected, before the baby is born, and if so when?...is it okay to kill after the baby is born? Should the mother/doctor decide? Should the law makers or elected officials decide? These are some of the endless questions and debates of many!
Questions and debates of many, I say…because for those who know the Bible to be God’s Holy Word, there is no question or debate at all, because Almighty God has already spoken. The Scriptures above are just a very few wonderful and clear directives for our decisive understanding. The blood and life of mankind is to be only be in God’s hands. Mankind is special to God because we are made in the image of God. (Verse 6) It is not in the place of an individual to take their own life. A beast or another person is not authorized to decide if the life of another should be ended. (Verse 5) Only in violation of these standards has God authorized mankind as a whole to shed the offender’s blood. (Verse 6)\
These directives and others in Scripture, tell us that any time after initial conception the child is a living organism which is a being formed and molded into the person God intended. Psalms 51:5, Psalms 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5 No amount of evil or immorality can change this simple axiom of life.
Then, please notice the last Scripture above. There we learn that presently and in our future day of Judgement before a thrice holy God, the directives and principles of God’s word will be the basis of our proper judgment! We should allow our common sense and the conviction of the Holy Spirit of God to guide our actions today!
