The Bible Column - Are you opposing the God of Heaven?

“And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O Children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.” II Chronicles 13:12
The context of the Scripture above is that of a grievous battle between the tribes of the divided kingdom of Israel. Judah had 400,000 valiant men of war against Israel’s 800,000 chosen men, being mighty men of valor. II Chronicles 13:3 King Abijah of Judah proclaimed a warning from upon Mount Zemaraim, to King Jeroboam and all of Israel to not fight against the Davidic Covenant, which speaking of its permanency, he called it “a covenant of salt.” II Chronicles 13:5 He called the participants of the opposition the children of Belial, a name which referred to Satan and his work of evil through the lives of people! These had previously risen up against Rehoboam of Judah to his defeat. II Chronicles 13:7 and Judges 19:22 King Abijah continues, that now this same Satanic opposition is before him and the Lord again, and that they (King Jereoboam and all Israel) have forsaken God! II Chronicles 13:8-11
It is in this true history story that the Scripture above is placed. Here king Abijah claims the God of Heaven himself, as Judah’s captain in this battle. He directs Jeroboam and all of Israel to, “…fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.” The following verses tell that King Jeroboam and all Israel did not listen, and King Abijah, “…slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel 500,000 men.” II Chronicles 13:17
Sadly, in our day, many are opposing the God of Heaven. The Bible message is clear… “ye shall not prosper”. May the Lord speak to each of us in our lives about this truth! The Bible is “The Book of Direction” for proper change and recovery in our lives. We do well when we listen and yield to the Lord!
How about you today? What will you do with God and His truth? “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” I Corinthians 1:24-31
