The Bible Column - God is Faithful to Forgive Our Sins

“He that coverth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Happy is the man that feareth always: but he that hardenth his heart shall fall into mischief.” Proverbs 28:13&14
The most wonderful part about the message of the Bible is that God in His mercy is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Almighty God is greater than all of our sin. This forgiveness, however, is not accomplished just because God is faithful and just and greater than our sin. Many folks seem to believe that simplistic theory, however.
As the Scripture above clearly tells us, there are two possibilities when sin is committed. One is that an individual can cover their sin and the second is that an individual can confess and forsake their sin. Oh the great difference between the two dealings with our sin. The word cover speaks of concealing for secrecy. This approach is an attempt to hide sin from all people and even from God Himself. The sad result of this erring approach is that they “shall not prosper”. The words confesseth and forsaketh, on the other hand, speak of lamenting ones sins in agreement with God and relinquishing them from life. These words speak of doing a complete 180 degree turn around from the previous direction and committing of sin. The sin must stop. Another Bible word which describes this same sincere process of dealing with sin is “repentance”. Acts 20:21 The wonderful result of this proper dealing with our sin is that we “shall have mercy”…the withholding of the judgment of God which we rightfully deserve.
To sin is human, but to repent and properly turn from sin takes divine power. We as individuals and a society are in great need of properly finding forgiveness of our sin. May the Lord help you and I to properly deal with our sin today. God will be honored and we will be blessed by Almighty God! Thanks for reading today!
