The Bible Column - God's Coming Judgement of Sin

“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.” Luke 17:26
The gospel writer, Luke, in addressing the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ writes: “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man.” The period prior to Jesus Christ’s return to rule and reign on this earth will be just like the times in which Noah lived. The Bible describes those days as follows: “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” (Gen. 6:5, 11 cf. v. 26 and Matt. 24:38)
Noah was “a preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5) who warned the people for 120 years concerning God’s coming judgment of sin. But the people did not want to hear that message. They wanted to live every day as if nothing else mattered. They did not want to be bothered with the truth. They had no respect for life. Lies and deceit were promoted as the truth. Sin abounded. Yet God was “longsuffering” as He “waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing” ( I Peter 3:20); He extended His love to the whole world because He “is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). But the Day of Judgment finally came. Those who were not in the ark could not blame God. They could only blame themselves for their choice to reject God’s provision. This present age is similar to the days of Noah. Judgment is coming, yet people mock as if it were a scare tactic. The Bible teaches the return of Jesus Christ for His saints, followed by a seven year period of tribulation, also followed by Christ’s return with His saints. Are you ready?
May the Lord continue to give strength to those who desire to remain faithful to Him. May others turn to the Lord in repentance and faith in these last days! The Lord is still in control. We need to continue to trust Him today!
