The Bible Column - Saved by Grace

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
Those who are truly children of God, were saved and born-again at a moment in time. (John 3:3) The first two verses above tell of salvation by grace through faith and not of works. Then verse 10 tells that the born again believer is created in Christ Jesus unto good works. The believer is not created in or by good works, but rather unto good works. A baby is not born in growth and development but rather unto growth and development. Birth is first, then growth and godly works and service for the Lord follows!
We do not work to get saved,
And we do not work to stay saved.
But, we work because we are saved.
The Bible tells us that those who say that they have become a child of God and do not show good works, are not saved. (II Corinthians 5:17) Clearly each of us fails the Lord from time to time, but where there are no spiritual works, there has never been a spiritual birth. We are born again at a moment in time,
Then, we instantly possess eternal life sublime!
Our new life in Christ, changes our heart,
With the help of the Lord, from sin we depart!
We work for the Lord because we’re forgiven
Our salvation is “know so”, and our home is heaven!
About these things we are completely sure,
Not because of us, we are so clear!
But because of Christ
Who paid sin’s awful price!
This pure Gospel message we desire to tell,
So that all who believe, can avoid the fires of Hell!
