The Bible Column - "Six Calls" to the Christian

Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called…” Romans 8:30
A Christian is a person who has answered the call of God. The word for “church” in the Greek language is ekklesia, and is a compound word. The first syllable is ek which means “out from”. The last part of the word comes from the Greek word Kaleo, which means “to call”. The church is, therefore, a company of people “called out from the world”. The Bible mentions at least six things to which the believer is called. He is called “out”, but also “into” something. Notice six calls:
1. Out of darkness (conversion) I Peter 2:9
2. Into His marvelous light (clear vision) I Peter 2:9
3. Unto fellowship (communion) I Corinthians 1:9
4. To holiness (consecration) I Peter 1:15
5. For blessing (compensation) I Peter 3:9
6. Unto glory (coronation) I Peter 5:10
The Christian calling begins with the call of the Gospel to the heart, which if received, results in conversion by faith. This settles salvation forever. John 3:16, I John 5:11-13 The call out of darkness into the light of God results in fellowship and communion with the Father and others who have answered God’s call. Then follows separation and holiness, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy”. Our present compensation is the blessing of God on our lives as the result of following him. Then, one of these days we will be called unto glory. Oh grand homegoing!
There’s going to be a meeting in the air,
In the sweet, sweet by and by.
I’m going to meet you, meet you there,
In that home beyond the sky.
Such singing you will hear-
Never heard by mortal ear…
‘Twill be glorious I do declare.
And God’s own Son will be the leading one,
At that meeting in the air!
Dear reader friend, do you know that your sins are under the blood of Christ? Have you answered his call to salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross? Are you walking your talk? Are you ready for “that meeting in the air?”
