The Bible Column - The Blessing of God
“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Psalms 32:1
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.” Psalms 33:12
In these passages we learn of the blessing of God upon certain individuals, nations, and people.
The word “blessed” in these 2 Scriptures speaks of ultimate happiness. It means “How Happy.” The word “blessed” means to be straight, level, right, forward, honest, proper. This blessing comes only from the God of Heaven and includes our personal salvation from our sins by grace through faith alone in Christ’s finished work! Ephesians 1:3-23; 2:8-9
The individuals who receive God’s blessing are those whose transgressions or moral revolts against the Lord are forgiven. I John 1:9 The word forgiven speaks of being carried away…our sins being put as far as the east is from the west. Psalms 103:12. The word sin means to miss the mark of holiness and thus making the mark of destruction and misery. The word cover tells of a complete concealing and hiding of our sin before God, because of His mercy and grace!
The nation that receives God’s blessing is the nation who has made the Lord of Heaven their God. The word God here speaks of the only great and mighty supreme creator and authority of all mankind. Genesis 1:1-2 “There is one God…” I Timothy 2:5 There are many man made gods, “…the work of man’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell,…” Deuteronomy 4:28. There are others who are made Gods to men, but they are not the supreme God of Heaven. We must rather believe that, “…He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 All other gods are false gods!
The people that God blesses are those whom He has chosen to for his own inheritance. The word inheritance speaks of those who occupy His nature, favor, and possession. Here the nation of Israel is clearly identified as referenced in the Abrahamic Covenant. Genesis 12:1-3 Presently, the nation of Israel is in blindness in part. Romans 11:25 The New Testament people of inheritance are those who are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ through the new birth. Romans 8:17 This people of inheritance is called “The Body of Christ” and includes both Jews and Gentiles in Christ, who live between Pentecost in Acts 2 and the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His church in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Collectively, when the people of a nation honor the Lord as a general whole, the favor of the God of Heaven shines upon them! My prayer is for spiritual revival to come to the United States of America beginning in the heart of each citizen and then spreading throughout our allies in the world!
We need the Lord’s blessing in each of our lives. Oh how happy people are when they are blessed of the Lord!
Oh, how we need the Lord’s blessing!
Oh, how happy we can be!
When we follow the Lord’s mandates!
His love for us to see!
